Bayonetta 2 director Yusuke Hashimoto of Platinum Games has made an interesting proclamation on Twitter. If forced to work with an existing IP, he’d want to create a game based on the Spider-Gwen comics!
For the unfamiliar, Spider-Gwen is a version of Spider-Man in an alternate universe, where Gwen Stacy is the one who gets bitten by the radioactive spider and becomes a superhero. It’s got some interesting twists on the story. She’s in a band with Mary Jane, and Peter Parker ends up becoming The Lizard! Spider-Gwen is one of many possible Spider superheroes within the Spider-Verse, a multiverse where dozens of superheroes with spider powers from alternate universes exist. You know, similar to the Turtle-Verse from TMNT.
Platinum could certainly do some cool things with Marvel’s IP. The developer’s trademark action would definitely fit a high energy hero like Spider-Gwen. Could this really pan out, or is it just another developer talking about pipe dreams on Twitter? Would you play a Platinum Spider-Gwen game?
