Virtually all of the Switch catalog of games (with some exceptions here and there) will be playable on Switch 2 when it launches on June 5. Among those games will be, of course, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. What’s nice is that fans will have some options when it comes to playing the game moving forward, as they can continue to play it on their original Switch or they can transfer the whole shebang onto Switch 2. Players also be able to enjoy the multiplayer no matter which system they’re playing on—meaning someone playing a Switch 1 will be able to play with someone who’s on a Switch 2.

It’s this last bit of the equation that has gotten some attention in the latest update of New Horizons. Version 2.0.7 of the software is now live, and the update was apparently done in an effort to bolster multiplayer between Switch 1 and Switch 2 users. Here are the patch notes:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Ver. 2.0.7 (Released May 27, 2025)

General

Improved the compatibility for multiplayer sessions between Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.

Although no one in the general public has been able to experience multiplayer between the two systems, it’s nonetheless nice to hear that Nintendo has been apparently testing things internally and wants to make the experience as smooth as possible for the impending console launch. You can download the update now and be ready on day one for some New Horizons multiplayer if you’re interested.
