In the halcyon days of Nintendo’s youth as a console and software manufacturer, a number of challengers attempted to rise up and dethrone the company’s beloved Super Mario mascot. Sega was one such rival that produced a character of this ilk, which was Alex Kidd. Kidd starred in a bunch of Sega Master System games and a lone Genesis outing before being supplanted by Sonic the Hedgehog, but has still appeared from time to time (for instance, as part of the Sega Ages line of games).
If you’ve been itching for an Alex Kidd revival, developer Merge Games has you covered. The developer revealed today during IGN’s Summer of Gaming event that it will be bringing Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX for Nintendo Switch.
Merge are thrilled to reveal that we’re bringing back a platforming legend with #AlexKiddinMiracleWorldDX!
Revealed on #IGNSummerOfGaming, Merge will release on #NintendoSwitch, #PC, #Xbox and #PlayStation!

Here’s what the remake entails:
- New graphics
- New modes
- New levels
- Alternative boss fights
- Boss Rush mode
- Retro mode (with authentic 8-bit graphics)
Beyond that, there’s no release window, but what Merge is showing off here is looking pretty nice. Once we hear more we’ll be sure to let you all know. This is a cool development as part of Sega’s 60 years anniversary; one can’t help but wonder what other reveals the company will make!
