During yesterday’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, Shigeru Miyamoto made a brief visit to reveal the cast of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie. Being developed jointly by Nintendo and Illumination, it has been a while since the film was announced, with little news between then and now beyond rumors. While we still haven’t seen any footage of the project, we at least now know who is starring in it:
- Chris Pratt as Mario
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach
- Charlie Day as Luigi
- Jack Black as Bowser
- Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
- Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong
- Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong
- Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek
- Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike
The release date of the film has also been set as December 21, 2022. While all of this is certainly interesting, the elephant mustachioed plumber in the room is: where’s Charles Martinet? The voice of Mario for over 25 years is being billed as making several cameos throughout the film, but sadly, he will not be handling voice work for the title character. A character that Martinet, frankly, has defined for generations of gamers. It’s an absolute shame, but at least he’s in the movie, albeit in a limited capacity.
What say you, readers? Yay or nay to this casting? Tell us down in the comments!
