To everyone’s surprise, hackers have discovered that all Nintendo Switch consoles have a copy of the NES game Golf hidden away.
Acting on a comment from a user on GBATemp.net, the individuals found that systems have both the game and a NES emulator required to run it. The game itself, meanwhile, also includes added motion controller support for the Joy-Cons.

Golf can only be accessed on July 11, however, which is the date of Satoru Iwata’s death. Additionally, as a further tribute to the Nintendo’s former President, players also have to remove their Joy-Cons from the console and mimic Iwata’s famous ‘direct’ hand gesture in order to access the game.
Unfortunately, if you have already connected your Switch to the internet, manually changing the date settings of your console won’t let you play the game early, as the console remembers what the actual date is. For the vast majority of us, that means that we will have to wait until next year to try it for ourselves.
It is nonetheless great to see Nintendo include this tribute to Iwata, as Switch was considered to be the last project that he was involved in. It does also make you wonder what other secrets might still be hidden away on the console…
