Last week, we reported on GameStop selling pre-owned copies of Xenoblade Chronicles for a whopping $90. Many fans cried foul as GameStop had exclusive rights to distribute the title in the US. The question of whether or not this constituted a monopolistic practice was even debated pretty heavily on our forums. GameStop replied that they were planning to do this with other “vintage” titles such as Metroid Prime Trilogy. Well, it appears they’ve made good on that promise, as the Wii collection is now available for purchase on GameStop’s website.
The cost of Metroid Prime Trilogy doesn’t bear the same stigma that Xenoblade Chronicles does. Unlike the latter title, it was available from other retail chains in its initial release, albeit in extremely limited quantities. It is interesting that GameStop is, essentially, matching the price that the title is going for on eBay, however. eBay and Amazon, after all, have been a strong outlet for gamers looking to get more money back on used games than what GameStop offers.
