Top Ten: Games to Replay in Summer

Sam counts down ten classic games to replay during the slow summer months.

A perk I have mentioned in many of these games are their short intros that let you get right into the action. Resident Evil 4 does this as well, and after the action gets going it never lets up. Easily ranked among the best third-person shooters ever created, Resident Evil 4 is a 10-15 hour gauntlet of survival horror. You must defeat hordes of zombies, escape dangerous traps, carefully conserve your resources, and take down giant bosses. Every situation can be tackled a number of ways. I personally try to use at little ammo as possible, pulling out my knife whenever the opportunity arises. Well, unless I get the chance to fire the infinitely satisfying shotgun (maybe I should make a Top Ten: Shotguns in Games, though I guess I’ve already revealed the winner). If you played through using one set of guns, switch it up. Try the Red 9 instead of the Blacktail, and the Riot Gun over the Striker. Or try some of the stranger weapons like the TMP or Mine Launcher. This game is available on a huge variety of consoles, but the Wii version is your best bet since it allows you to use either motion controls or a GameCube Controller.

Fantastic list and write-ups Sam. I find myself coming back to most of these as well. My personal list would include Super Castlevania IV as well (score another for the SNES!) Like you said, “sadly, there isn’t enough time to replay everything.” Happy Gaming!

Never feel bad about telling people to play Ocarina of Time =) Dawn of Sorrow gave me a chuckle, because every time I see the box art of that game, it makes me think of Konami’s re-release of it. The cover for the re-release was… an image of the original box. Hahaha. That game is freaking awesome, though. All three of the DS Castlevania’s are out of this world. Wonderful list.
