Attention all mayors! Somehow, someway Nintendo is releasing an update to the 3DS Animal Crossing: New Leaf this fall. Yes, suddenly three years post-release the game will receive a swath of new stuff, including support for Amiibo cards and figures, and the addition of Splatoon-themed content.

It looks scanning Amiibo cards of villagers causes that character to move right into your town. The Animal Crossing figures will also work, but the usage is unclear at this time. Splatoon-themed content is also coming in the form of furniture, decorations, and outfits. Interestingly enough, a couple of squirrel villagers in the screenshots resemble Callie and Marie… Ready to load up the update and return to your neglected town?
