The latest gaming phenomenon in Japan is Yo-kai Watch, Level-5’s monster-watching 3DS title released last July. The craze has reached a fever pitch, as Level-5 confirms Yo-kai Watch has shipped a staggering one million units.
There has been no word of a Western release for Yo-kai Watch, but Level-5 filed a U.S. patent for the title back in January, and in February Level-5 gauged Western interest in the series. Will such colossal sales numbers pressure Level-5 even more to localize the game?
With a popular manga and anime of the same name, Yo-kai Watch takes the “gotta catch ’em all” premise of Pokémon and adapts it to yōkai, mythical demon spirits from Japanese folklore. A sequel, Yo-kai Watch 2, is slated for a Japan-only release on July 10.
Do you think Yo-kai Watch could be a financial success outside Japan? Let us know in the comments.

Level 5 needs to get to localizing this with a quickness.
