While Yo-kai Watch has yet to set the west on fire quite the way it has in Japan, the franchise has built a small, yet loyal fan base. Sales of the first title in Nintendo and Level-5’s franchise must have been strong enough, however, as the game’s sequel has been announced for a September 30 release!

Yo-kai Watch 2 will take a page out of the Pokémon playbook with a dual version release. Yo-kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls and Yo-kai Watch 2: Bouncy Spirits will release side-by-side, offering a predominantly new line-up of more than 100 Yo-kai to befriend (though series mascot Jibanyan will certainly be on hand). New merchandise from Hasbro will also release in September to coincide with the game’s release.

The previous Yo-kai Watch received a strong review from Nintendojo last fall, while Yo-kai Watch 2 received equally positive scores when it released in Japan back in 2014. With rumors circulating that the Nintendo NX will act as both a replacement for the Wii U and 3DS, 2016 continues to look to be a very impressive finale for the handheld, indeed.
