In the latest of the weekly Xenoblade Chronicles X updates from the official Japanese Twitter account, director Koh Kojima delved deeper into the “Soul Voice” battle mechanic. Through issuing and following party member commands, the team can gain buffs in the form of power-ups, life boosts, and more. However, Soul Voice in itself will vary based on unique avatar-specific dialogue.
The battle dialogue in Wii’s Xenoblade Chronicles was already very lively, but Kojima reveals it was quite difficult one-upping that due to the multitude of voice actors assigned to the avatar character. In the tweet, he elaborates, “It was hard work thinking up personalized lines for the 20 possible avatar voices and the set sub-characters–not to mention the huge amount of voice recording it led to.”
Kojima confirms the player can expect variations on Soul Voice depending on the chosen avatar voice. Given the ample amount of avatar customization in addition to the vast world, Xenoblade Chronicles X is proving to be Wii U’s biggest timesink yet!
