With two versions of Super Smash Bros. on the way this year, fans are eager to discover just what differences to expect in each version. We’ve long known that levels and trophies will be unique to each version while playable characters will remain the same, but what about Assist Trophies and Pokémon? The director of the twin titles, Masahiro Sakurai, chimed in on that very question, though it’s hard to discern just what to make of his reply.

The two versions will have “roughly the same types of Assist Trophies and Pokémon” said Sakurai. He added, “Just roughly…”

Sakurai certainly knows how to tease the fans. The director has given plenty of hints about what to expect from the titles through his frequent Miiverse updates. It will be interesting to discover exactly what his comments here might mean, however. With the different abilities of Wii U and 3DS, perhaps some of the assist characters and Pokémon will take advantage.

Super Smash Bros. will debut on Nintendo 3DS this summer, and quarter four of 2014 on Wii U. As always, let us know what you’d like to see in the comments below!

    Toadlord says...

Since the roster will be the same, anything else is fair game to be changed as far as I’m concerned.

One difference we might see is swapping out Pokemon with similar abilities. There are a ton of Pokemon, and this would be a good way to give more of them representation.
