Wii U might be struggling a bit here in the US, but back home in Japan, the system is seeing a modest increase in units moved. With 28, 518 consoles sold last week, Wii U clocked in at a respectable second place in Japan’s hardware charts, bested only by sales of 3DS XL. This is encouraging, as despite Super Mario 3D World’s underperformance in Nintendo’s native land, Wii U still seems to be picking up steam that it desperately needs. Whether this trend will manifest itself here in the US and other territories remains to be seen, but more Wii U consoles sold is a good thing for all fans of the house that Mario built.

Do you have plans to buy a Wii U this holiday season? Are there any games in particular you’re still holding out on before snagging Nintendo’s newest home console? Sound off below!

I think the holidays will probably be good to the Wii U. I’ve been seeing the advertising really amp up on television, and these are on non-children networks. I do wish DK Tropical Freeze had made it out in time for the holiday, but I understand them pushing it back for a better 2014 release schedule.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I think if anyone was holding out for that ONE game, it would either be Mario Kart 8 or Smash Bros. I’m hoping we get a definitive release date for one or both come the January Nintendo Direct.
