For most gamers, one of the most notable features in the recently released Super Mario Marker update is the new ability to include checkpoints in created levels. But Nintendo has also used the opportunity to include a number of easter eggs from Mario’s long and often bizarre history.
Since the update, when players knock on a door in the game’s course editor, it will be open and shut by Skinny Mario. There are a number of different versions of Skinny Mario that it could be and there is even a Skinny Yoshi. Of course, a chubbier than normal Mario may also be hiding behind the door as well.
A new Totem Link costume is also included– a reference to the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, which we recently found to be a good but somewhat lacking Zelda adventure.
The update also introduces Event Courses in the game’s Course World online hub, which feature levels from partner creators outside of Nintendo. These will be made available on an ongoing basis.
What have you thought of the update so far? Have you noticed any of these cameos? Let us know in the comments below, and don’t forget to visit our Super Mario Maker Level Exchange Hub for some expertly designed courses– Nintendojo’s own courses aren’t bad either!
