Everyone’s favorite Goomba-stomping plumbers have being inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame. Coming up on the 30th anniversary of the series and in the midst of a resurgence of great games being released for Wii U and 3DS, there’s no better time to formally induct two of the most popular characters in video game history into the World Video Game Hall of Fame.

Alongside the original Super Mario Bros. game, Pong, Pac-Man, Tetris, Doom, and World of Warcraft were also inducted. Each game was chosen based upon its influence on gaming today. Seeing how Super Mario Bros. inspires games today and even gave birth to an entire series that tried to mimic it (Gianna Sisters), it goes without saying that the duo rightfully deserves a spot among games like Pong and World of Warcraft.
