Splatoon Selling Out in Japan

Country’s freshness level could suffer dramatically.

Predicting how successful Splatoon would be in Japan was probably a rather difficult job. On the one hand, the country doesn’t have nearly the affinity for shooters that the Americas and Europe has; however, the residents also have quite the fondness for the cute and quirky. Apparently, the latter of these factors proved to be more dominant, because Splatoon is exceeding expectations in Japan to the point that it is becoming hard to find on store shelves.

While we don’t have any numbers yet, there are numerous reports coming from Nintendo and retailers expressing their surprise at the demand for Splatoon. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata advised that there will be additional shipments of the game in the coming days and reminded gamers that the title can still be downloaded from the Wii U eShop, where inventory is never a problem. So, if you’re in Japan and are itching to get your ink on, either wait patiently for a few more days or get that download started.

Like we said, there aren’t any sales figures yet, so it is really hard to gauge just how successful Splatoon is at this point. However, when it comes to business, it’s always better to sell more of a product than you expected, than to sell less.
