In a blog post, the title’s developer, Yacht Club Games, said that the free update will be rolled out to all platforms and in all regions on this date. The only requirement to be able to play the new content, is that the original game must be completed — although the studio can provide special codes for players that have switched platforms.
Plague of Shadows includes an all new adventure, featuring the Plague Knight, and a new Challenge Mode. The Plague Knight (apart from looking pretty snazzy) can throw potions at its enemies and can also double-jump.
Shovel Knight originally launched on PC, Wii U and 3DS as a digital download in 2014 and was rated as ‘oustanding’ by the Nintendojo staff upon release. Since then, the action-platformer has also been released on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, PS Vita and Xbox One.
If you haven’t had a chance to download the game yet, or just prefer good old fashioned discs, a physical version of the game is also coming to Nintendo platforms in just over a month. Better yet, it will also come with the Plague of Shadows DLC pre-loaded – so there will be no time wasted on downloading!
Of course, there’s also the recently announced Shovel Knight Amiibo on the way, as well! Unfortunately, we are still no closer to finding out whether the character will be making his way to Super Smash Bros. Still, we can dream!
