With The Legend of Zelda Wii U releasing later this year, it’s very likely that new details will arrive in the very near future. If a new rumor is to be believed, the title will feature a series first: the ability to select the protagonist’s gender.
If proven true, the news wouldn’t be all that surprising. Nintendo seemed to hint last year that the game could feature a female protagonist. Hyrule Warriors Legends also featured the debut of Linkle, a female hero obviously inspired by Link. Finally, Nintendo franchises like Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and Pokémon have given gamers the option to choose the player’s gender. Including it as an option in one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises could make the series an even bigger draw.
The rumor comes from Emily Rogers, who has proven quite the reliable source of late. Rogers revealed the existence of Paper Mario: Color Splash several weeks before the game was officially announced. In addition to the ability to select gender, Rogers also claims that the title will feature more voice acting than previous series installments (though Link will remain silent), and the title will release on NX, as well. Considering that a dual console release similar to Twilight Princess has long been rumored, it certainly wouldn’t be all that surprising.
We’ll likely have much more information on The Legend of Zelda Wii U at this year’s E3. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information as it breaks!
