Punch-Out!! Hits eShop

It’s Thursday again, which means Nintendo has added a handful of new games to the eShop for your downloading pleasure. Headlining this week’s releases is Punch-Out!!, the second NES title (following last month’s Super Mario Bros.) to hit the service (and the first not already available to early adopters). Fans can purchase the game for $4.99, the same price as its Wii Shop equivalent.

New Kid Icarus: Uprising Trailer

Earlier today, Nintendo released a new trailer for its upcoming 3DS game, Kid Icarus: Uprising. The trailer gives players a closer look at some of the new items and enemies that Pit will encounter on his journey (including the Eggplant Wizard’s deep-fried cousin, the Tempura Wizard).

Kid Icarus: Uprising is scheduled to hit both Europe and North America on March 23.

Super Mario 3D Land Director Talks Unused Ideas

In his keynote address at the Game Developers Conference, Koichi Hayashida, the director of the acclaimed Super Mario 3D Land, revealed several interesting gameplay ideas that were ultimately scrapped from the final product. Among these ideas, the team considering giving Mario the ability to skate on half-pipes using Koopa shells. They also considering including certain cockroach enemies that could only be defeated by physically closing the 3DS, though this was likely discarded to avoid causing any scratches to the top screen.

In a more candid interview, Hayashida also revealed that the development team considering resurrecting Kuribo’s shoe for the plumber’s 3DS adventure, but they ultimately decided against it as they could not come up with an interesting way to integrate it into the gameplay. And to think we came so close.
