Just as it had teased over the weekend, Nintendo unveiled a pair of new fighters for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U today: Robin and Lucina from Fire Emblem Awakening!

For those unfamiliar with Fire Emblem Awakening, Robin is the default name for the player’s avatar. Just as in the game, his moveset consists of spells drawn from different tomes, which can only be used a certain number of times before they must be discarded. He also wields the magical Levin Sword, which allows him to strike foes with electrical attacks.

Today’s other new fighter, Lucina, is the daughter of Awakening’s hero, Chrom. She travels back in time and disguises herself as the legendary hero Marth to stop the destruction of the world. Just as her father, she battles using the divine blade, the Falchion.

According to today’s footage, players will be able to choose between a male and female version of Robin, just as with the Wii Fit Trainer and Animal Crossing Villager. Lucina’s father, Chrom, was also seen on the battlefield in today’s trailer, though it’s not yet clear if he’s an alternate costume for Lucina or simply an Assist Trophy.

Interestingly enough, Captain Falcon also appeared in the trailer, confirming his return to the series.

What do you think of today’s new Smash Bros. characters? Let us know in the comments!

This is the only reveal I’ve been kind of “meh” about so far. I don’t think these two really bring much to the party.

And really, having four Fire Emblem characters seems like a bit much compared to some franchises. But hey, Captain Falcon sure showed his moves in that trailer!

Fire Emblem is my favorite series of all time, so I can barely contain my excitement. Sure, Lucina looks to be a Marth clone, but who cares? Marth is my main anyway. Robin’s moveset looks radically different from any other character, so I’ll be playing him a lot, too. Hopefully there will be a costume that gives him minty green hair, just like my avatar in Awakening. Now if Shulk gets confirmed, my life will be complete.

I’m kind of with you, but that’s because I’ve never really gotten into the strategy genre. Still, I like that Nintendo has used the Smash Bros. franchise to bring attention to Fire Emblem. Four characters might seem like a lot, but I’m a Pokémon fan, and I’m sure plenty of other people feel the same way about that franchise’s representation.

I’ll be honest, i’m completely unfamilar with Fire Emblem games proper, but Ike rules in Brawl, so i’ll check these guys out!
