After 28 years, Prima Games, the biggest video game strategy publisher in the U.S., is shutting down.

Dorling Kindersley (DK), Prima Games’ parent company, called the decision to halt all Prima Games operations by Spring 2019 “extremely difficult” and that it was due to a “significant decline” in the market for physical video game guides. Staff are currently working on completing guides that have already been commissioned before the company closes. Meanwhile, the company’s Roseville, CA location could be shuttered as soon as mid-November, with its Indianapolis and New York offices to follow.

Sadly, this announcement doesn’t totally come as a surprise. As video game magazines and print publications continue to disappear due to the ease, convenience, and affordability of free online resources, it was only a matter of time before Prima Games, in its current form, could no longer keep up with changing preferences in consumer consumption of this media.

Regardless, we thank you Prima for helping countless gamers over the years uncover all those secrets and for helping us to get out of tough spots in some of our favorite games.

Do you still have your Prima guides from over the years? Have you continued to purchase them or did you switch to looking up game information online instead? Drop a comment below.
