Game Freak might have risen to fame thanks to the massively successful Pokémon franchise, but every once in a while the Japanese developer likes to gift the world with other quirky creations, like the underappreciated Drill Dozer or the more recent HarmoKnight. The studio’s latest, and perhaps least expected offering is Pocket Card Jockey, a strange genre mashup for 3DS that combines horse racing with solitaire.

While not particularly popular in the rest of the world, there has long been a market for games about horse racing in Japan. Pocket Card Jockey takes some of the popular sim aspects from that genre but combines it with racing mechanics that are built around playing solitaire.

If you’re thinking this sounds like a very strange fusion and are hesitant to put down your hard earned money for such a concept, you’ll be pleased to know that Europe will be getting a demo this Thursday, April 21. Hopefully getting a taste of the game will help you decide whether or not the full game will be worth it once it is released on May 5.

Previous announcements have the game pegged for a May 2016 release in North America, as well, but no official date has been set yet.
