Nintendo’s famed designer Shigeru Miyamoto made his animated debut at the Tokyo International Film Festival with the premiere of three animated short films based on the Pikmin series.

The shorts, titled “The Night Juicer, “Treasure in a Bottle,” and “Occupational Hazards,” began production during the development of Pikmin 3. Despite this new venture, however, Miyamoto insists he hasn’t left video games behind:

“I haven’t moved over, but as computer graphics have gotten better, I started to feel it was something I could get involved with. Making films in the past was something that was made with a completely different skillset but now I feel it’s rather similar.”

Miyamoto revealed that he’s created between 20 and 30 short films, which fans will be able to watch on Nintendo 3DS, though whether this will be through Nintendo Video or a new video app has not been specified.
