Last week, it was reported that a new Pokémon game starring series mascot Pikachu was in development for 3DS. The mysterious title was finally unveiled today during a television special on Tsunekaz Ishihara, CEO of The Pokémon Company, but it may not be quite what you had in mind.
Contrary to early speculation, it turns out the title in question is actually a detective game, with the Electric mouse playing the role of your sidekick. That’s certainly a bit unexpected considering the teaser video that had been released, which suggested the title would be more akin to Hey You, Pikachu!, but it appears that this early footage was merely a demonstration of the motion-capture technology used in the game’s development. It also appears that the game will feature a special blue-colored Pikachu, presumably as the antagonist, but that has yet to be confirmed.
A new screenshot was also shown during the television special, which revealed that the game will be played from a first-person perspective and will allow players to examine clues using a magnifying glass. Nintendo has yet to officially announce the title, but early reports suggest that it may not be released until 2015.
What do you think of the new Pikachu game? Are you disappointed that it’s a detective adventure, or are you intrigued by the rather unusual genre choice? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
