Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas Could be Heading to Consoles

Is the Wind Waker-inspired iOS game sailing our way?

The recent explosion of up-and-coming indie game developers has resulted in a number of titles inspired by classic video games. While most of these titles tend to harken back to the heyday of the NES and Super NES, we have seen a couple examples of more recent homages.

Take, for example, Oceanhorn: Monster of the Uncharted Seas. The title very clearly takes a lot of inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. While the game is currently exclusive to iOS and PC, the game’s developer, Cornfox and Bros., is toying with the idea of bringing the title to consoles. In a recent interview with Siliconera, the developer touched on the possibility:

“We have always loved the idea of bringing Oceanhorn to consoles! So, quite the contrary, we would love to release Oceanhorn on consoles! We are looking into our options on console release at the moment, but there is nothing to announce on this matter.”

Given that the Wii U has a fanbase that the game would likely appeal to, Nintendo’s console would seem to be a strong fit for the title. For more information on the game, check out the rest of the interview, which we’ve provided a link for below. In the meantime, we’ve embedded the game’s Steam trailer, for your viewing pleasure!

It might be easy to dismiss some indie games as being too similar to the titles that inspired them, but Oceanhorn does have one major difference, and that’s in the sound department. Veteran Final Fantasy composers Kenji Ito and Nobuo Uematsu are responsible for the soundtrack, which will likely give it an epic feel.

What do you think of Oceanhorn: Monster of the Uncharted Seas? Do you want to see it dock at the port of Wii U? Or should it sail to other consoles, instead? Let us know in the comments below!
