art_WinterMarioThe holidays are almost upon us, and Nintendo is bringing its own festive cheer to your Wii U and 3DS this week with the latest Nintendo Download. Read on for our highlights this week:

Wii U Download

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero – $19.99 – This is the latest game in the Shantae series following the excellent Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse on 3DS in 2014. It features the strong 2D platforming that fans of the series have come to expect and combines it with a distinctive new 3D art style and high octane music. The game doesn’t outstay its welcome and if you’re a fan of 2D platforming then this is certainly worth your time.

Wii U Virtual Console

Mario Party 2 – $9.99 – Initially released on the N64 back in 1999, Mario Party 2 built on the original game’s foundations by adding new boards, modes, and minigames. The game was generally well received on its release, although it was noted that the basic gameplay remained very similar to its predecessor. This is a criticism that largely stayed with the series, leading the latest games to radically alter the standard board game formula. If you are interested in returning to the traditional gameplay that gave the series its longetivity, Mario Party 2 is a great entry to revisit and, arguably, features some of the best minigames.
