Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis Artwork

It’s a moderately interesting week of downloads in the eShops, as a rare video makes its debut on the handheld marketplace and a modern classic Game Boy Advance title comes to the home shop. Let’s dive into this week’s download highlights!

Wii U Virtual Console

Mario vs. Donkey Kong – $6.99

I didn’t discover this game myself until college. I was snooping around my local GameStop back when they still carried Game Boy Advance games when I found the box for Mario vs. Donkey Kong on a shelf. Despite having a subscription to Nintendo Power my whole life, the game came out without my noticing; it wasn’t until I bought it that afternoon and went home and played it that I discovered its joys. The game is basically a souped up version of Donkey Kong ’94, where Mario completes a variety of environmental puzzles and platforming challenges to get through each stage. It blew my mind and continues to because of how spot-on and enjoyable the controls are. Mario’s never been as acrobatic in a 2D game as he is here, and it’s a real stunner, visually. I’ve jabbered enough — seriously, go buy this one, it’s awesome!

3DS eShop

Azure Striker Gunvolt: The Anime – $2.99

As someone who loved both the first and second Asuze Striker Gunvolt games, it’s an understatement to say I’m excited to download and watch this anime based on the series! Created by LandQ Studios, it’s the first animated Gunvolt adaptation and looks like it’s a fun watch. At $2.99 it’s a small investment to make, but this writer at least has a good feeling about it! Whether or not the tiny viewing screens of a 3DS or 3DS XL will be comfortable to watch the movie from is a different matter, though!

Parascientific Escape – Gear Detective – $5.99

The first installment of this series was a surprisingly good, so hopes are high for this followup. It’s an exploratory adventure game with anime flair; what more do you need?! It’s in the same vein as titles like 999, so if that’s your cup of tea, get to pouring.

That’s it for this week! What will you be downloading? Tell us in the comments!
