This week’s eShop offerings come in a little light in terms of shear numbers but should earn some major points for overall quality.
We’ll start by getting the least exciting news out of the way, Turbo: Super Stunt Squad will be releasing on both Wii U and 3DS eShops on July 16. Don’t get me wrong, Dreamworks makes some great movies, but history has given us little reason to expect great things from games based on kid friendly movies. Hopefully I’m wrong, though.
The biggest news for many should be the launch of Shin Megami Tensei IV on 3DS eShop, also on July 16. The big news here isn’t the simultaneous retail and digital release of a major title, but rather the deal that is being announced alongside its release. Gamers who register both Fire Emblem Awakening and SMT IV through Club Nintendo before August 31 will received a $30 credit on their eShop account. This seems like a pretty clever way of preparing gamers for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem as well as encourage people to explore DLC for both titles.
Another worthwhile release is Star Wars Pinball for Wii U. While some might see this as just another pinball game one must keep in mind Zen Studio is behind the respected Zen Pinball franchise as well as Marvel Pinball. Pinball games might not be for everyone, but these guys do have pretty good track record in the genre.
Last on this week’s list are three undisputed NES classics coming to Virtual Console. Wii U eShop will play host to Donkey Kong and Metroid while 3DS will get Super Mario Bros. 2.
All things considered, a pretty good haul; though I must admit the thought of having a free $30 in my virtual wallet is what excites me the most.
