New Islands and Lost Levels.

Today’s North American release slate is headlined by the egg-bustin’ Yoshi’s New Island on 3DS, available in the eShop and on retail shelves at midnight tonight for $39.99. For a game capitalizing so much on nostalgia, it would be the perfect opportunity to release Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island on Wii U Virtual Console today, right? Unfortunately we’ll have to wait a bit longer for that. In the meantime, Yoshi’s New Island is the biggest effort by Yokohama studio Arzest, which was founded by key members of Artoon.

On Wii U Virtual Console, we get Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels for NES, the original Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, which Nintendo originally thought was too difficult for Westerners. You can nab it for $4.99. On 3DS Virtual Console, we get Namco’s arcade classic Galaga for NES. It’s also $4.99.

We’ve got a few eShop sales as well. Indie hit SteamWorld Dig on 3DS is 50 percent off until March 16, at $4.50. If you love pinball, you’re in luck, because Zen Studios is making its 3DS titles half off as well: Zen Pinball 3D ($3.49), Marvel Pinball 3D ($3.99), and Star Wars Pinball ($3.49) are all on sale from March 17-31.

That’s not all in the eShop this Thursday. On Wii U we get new DLC for CastleStorm, and on 3DS we get a smattering of new titles: Madagascar 3 & The Croods Prehistoric Party Combo Pack ($29.95, I know all of you were dying for this one), Bubble Pop World ($4.99), Cube Tactics ($4.99), Lola’s ABC Party ($3.99), and a free demo of puzzle game WAKEDAS.

Though I was hyped for the possibility of Yoshi’s Island, and I should know better, The Lost Levels are on my “eventually” list. At least it’s a step up from the usual Wii U eShop downloads.

Was super excited about the sales… but then realized that I already own SteamWorld Dig (so the sale does me no good) and the Zen Studios sale doesn’t carry over to Wii U, where I would prefer to own Star Wars Pinball.

Oh well – still great prices, and I decided to slum with the 3DS version of Star Wars pinball despite the limited screen space.
