While most of North America slept, Nintendo held its annual investors briefing, and made some major revelations regarding its most anticipated releases.
Perhaps the biggest news to come out of the investors briefing is that the company’s next console, currently known at the NX, will be launching globally in March 2017. Not only that, but the next Legend of Zelda title, which has been in development for Wii U for the past several years, has also been delayed to 2017, and will be releasing simultaneously for both Wii U and NX.
With NX still on the horizon for several more months, Nintendo has confirmed that the console will not be showcased at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo; in fact, the only game that will appear at the show in a playable capacity will be the Wii U version of the next Legend of Zelda, making this the sparsest showing the company has had in recent memory. Of course, Nintendo typically precedes E3 with a Nintendo Direct broadcast, so there will still likely be a number of new announcements for fans to look forward to in early June. Nintendo has also stated that additional information about its E3 plans will be “announced in the future.”
What do you think about the latest news? Is March a good time frame to launch the NX? Are you surprised that Zelda will be releasing on both Wii U and the new console? Share your thoughts in the comments!
