During today’s Nindies Showcase Spring 2018 presentation, Nintendo showed off a number of impressive indie games headed to Switch in the coming months. Those hoping for a major announcement along the lines of a new Shovel Knight or Shantae title may have come away a bit disappointed, but there were still a number of intriguing, and clever, games on display.

One of the most appealing things about today’s presentation was some of the real ingenuity on display. One of the clear highlights was The Messenger, an upcoming Ninja Gaiden-influenced 2D platformer with a twist: players can switch between an 8-bit world and a 16-bit world, both of which looked absolutely stunning.

Speaking of stunning, Bomb Chicken, Fantasy Strike and Light Fall all showed just how visually appealing indie games can be. While visuals are not always indicative of quality, it truly is impressive to see how smaller developers continue to create gorgeous worlds on a smaller budget.

There were a number of other strong announcements, as well, including the arrival of The Banner Saga 3, as well as the previous two entries in the franchise. We’ll have much more coverage of all of these games in the near future, but, in the meantime, let us know what your favorite announcement was today, either in the comments below, or by taking part in our poll on Twitter!
