Art, art, and more art. Most for pleasure, some for business!

Fan-Made Art Puts a LEGO Spin on Zelda

Check out this engaging take on Ocarina of Time, created by one Wes Talbott. The LEGO brand has depicted a lot of fantasy IPs in recent years—Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, for instance. You think Nintendo would ever allow it to do so with Link’s adventures? I’d love to see the Great Deku Tree brought to life in Danish blocks.

Super Smash concept

Still hungry, ay? Here’s another beautiful cross-over, this one of Super Smash Bros. and (animated TV series turned video game) Adventure Time.

Super Smash Bros. Melee being my favorite game of all time, I can’t celebrate this enough. As long as Sakurai, HAL Laboratory, and Nintendo are credited as its parents, the percentage and knockout systems should become the hallmarks of a genre, plain and simple.

Specifically (I’ll cut my rambling short, I promise), I’d love to see a Super Smash-style melting pot of mythological figures, both obscure and popularly recognized. Oh, and I want dark tone, the stuff of a Sumerian peasant’s nightmares. Kickstart it, anyone?

Wii U Cases Confirmed?

On to some business. Those recently leaked Wii U case covers appear to be the real deal. Or at least, that’s what one Ubisoft PR representative—Mr. Michael Beadle—would have us believe. Here’s the quote as relayed by Gametrailers.com:

“Why yes, the Wii U box art you sent is legit; in fact, it’s too legit to quit.”

Some pretty nonchalant use of language from one of the industry’s biggest publishers. We’ll take it.

Many have rightfully observed that the box style resembles that of GameCube games, what with the curved banner and all. It’s a nice little throwback, but still I’d rather they refine the GameCube’s controller (as the system’s Pro Controller) instead. Can’t have it all.

Some folks have noted that it’s like GameCube’s because of the curve, which is apparently a bad omen. Whatever!

That said, the yellow is a little weird. I wonder if there are any yellow “power on” lights on the game pad or the console. Or if I could get a yellow Wii U, that’d be a cool surprise. Doubtful, though.

Still, the color combo takes me back to the early ’90s, which isn’t necessarily a good thing. Maybe Nintendo designers are trendsetters and have foreseen an explosion of this color combination in our near future.

I’m having a nerdgasm over that Avengers game box :D

I agree though, the yellow is a little…ill-fitting.

Also, Zelda Lego is quite close to being a reality…

I’m not sure how I feel about the whole thing. The color combination feels a little too much unicorns-and-rainbows. If the Wii U is going to cater to a market outside of casual players, I don’t know how effective that setup is really going to be. If anything, it might turn away some people simply because it looks a little childish.

Of course, now I’m going to contradict myself and say that an actual box that’s the color of that blue would look pretty awesome.

I think, overall, I feel a little conflicted.
