Because “Scribblenanananana… Batman!” seemed too on the nose.

After granting players the ability to use nearly every word and adjective in the dictionary, it seemed as if developer 5th Cell had pushed the envelope as far as it could with the Scribblenauts franchise. Luckily for us, the studio has found an entire new universe for Maxwell to explore in Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure. This fall, Maxwell will bring his magic notebook to famous locations from the DC Comics universe such as the Batcave and the Daily Planet.

But what would the DC Universe be without the superheroes that inhabit it? The new title promises to add over 2,000 characters for Maxwell to ally himself with. While DC’s most popular characters will be appearing (such as Superman, Batman, the Joker, and Wonder Woman), the real highlight for DC fans will be the number of obscure characters and variations that will show up along the way. Typing in Batman doesn’t just get you the classic caped crusader, it also allows you to choose from several different Batmen from DC’s Batman Inc. comic. In total, 5th Cell promises that there will be over 30 variations of the dark knight, multiple versions of the Flash, and up to 130 members of the Green Lantern Corps. The game’s Batcomputer mode will also provide insight and details about each of the characters appearing in the game.

Want to recreate the famous story where Batman gains the abilities of Superman? 5th Cell seems to have you covered. Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure will also allow players to create their own character amalgams. One example shown was a variation on the villain Doomsday but with the costume and abilities of Superman. With over 2,000 heroes and villains to pick and choose from, the number of options are near limitless.

Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure will release exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and PC this fall. As always, stay tuned to Nintendojo as we’ll unveil more from the game as it develops.
