In a statement to Siliconera, Nintendo revealed that Fire Emblem Awakening has sold 180,000 copies in the U.S. in its first month, a new high for the series.

Of those 180,000 copies, 117,000 were sold at retail, while 63,000 were sold as digital downloads.

For the sake of comparison, Nintendo also released sales data for the DS title Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. Shadow Dragon, which released in the U.S. almost exactly four years before Awakening, sold 250,000 copies in the country during its entire lifespan. Awakening has already made 70 percent of those sales in just 28 days. The news is even more impressive when you consider that the series made its debut on our shores less than a decade ago.

I picked up a copy at retail which was hard to find. I heard of it being hard to find in other areas as well. I bet they could’ve had more retail sales if they had more out there. I’ve been hesitant to download full retail games because I only have 4gb to work with. I guess could get a bigger memory card but I’m not sure if I can transfer game saves.
