As promised, The Pokémon Company has released a new trailer for the upcoming seventh generation Pokémon titles, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, shedding more light on the games’ setting and cast of characters.

The video began with a closer look at the two legendary Pokémon introduced at the end of the games’ previous trailer: Solgaleo and Lunala. Solgaleo is the lion-like mascot of Pokémon Sun and is referred to in Alola legends as the “beast that devours the sun.” Solgaleo is a Psychic- and Steel-type Pokémon with its own signature ability, Full Metal Body, which prevents its stats from being lowered by an opponent’s attacks or ability. Lunala, meanwhile, is the bat-like mascot of Pokémon Moon. It is a Psychic- and Ghost-type monster, and like Solgaleo, has a unique ability: Shadow Shield, which reduces the amount of damage it takes from an opponent’s attacks when its HP is full.

In addition, the new trailer introduced fans to several important characters they will meet on their journey across the Alola region. The first is Kukui, the region’s professor. Like previous professors, Kukui lives in the same village as the protagonist, and his research concerns Pokémon moves. Kukui’s assistant is Lillie, a mysterious girl who dislikes making Pokémon battle but is a voracious reader. Your rival in Sun and Moon appears to be Hau, a kind-hearted young boy who quickly befriends the player after they move to the region.

As in every previous Pokémon game, players will be given a Pokédex at the start of their journey, but this time around it is inhabited by a Rotom. In addition to recording all of the Pokémon you encounter in Alola, the Rotom Pokédex also has its own personality and can even advise players where to go when they get stuck.
