When Mario Maker debuted at E3 last spring, many fans got excited about the possibility of making their own levels using different elements from the franchise. At the time, we only had confirmation that players could draw elements from three games: Super Mario Bros., Mario Paint, and New Super Mario Bros. This weekend, at the Game Awards 2014, Nintendo revealed that customization options from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World will also be available in the upcoming title! We’ve mirrored the game’s latest trailer below!

The new trailer certainly gives us an interesting look at the many customization options that will be available in the game. Alongside the revelation that Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World will be represented in the title, we’ve also learned that Koji Kondo will provide musical contributions, giving it even more of a classic Mario flair. Nintendo also seems to be pushing this game as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

Of course, the trailer raises just as many questions as it does answers. There doesn’t seem to be any generational crossover in the trailer. Presumably, players will be able to pick and choose elements from each game and mix them up, but enemies and scenarios have not yet been shown outside of their origin games just yet. We also have yet to hear any information about online level sharing. It seems like a very likely scenario, but an official confirmation has not been made at this time. Stay tuned to Nintendojo where we’ll have more information in the coming months.

Seeing as how I’m one of the few who prefers Super Mario World over all the originals this game has flat out got me sold…now all that’s left is to bring Cape Mario into the 3D platformers

This is one of my most anticipated games. I hope against hope that it leads to a whole “Maker” series – Zelda Dungeon Maker, Captain Toad Maker, F-Zero Maker and an updated WarioWare DIY.

If you’ve ever seen Miiverse, you know there are a ton of seriously creative and talented Nintendo fans out there; I want to play Mario levels (and other stuff!) that they’ve created! (And of course I want to create such things myself. :^)

Don’t get me wrong, yay for SMW and SMB3, but the single most exciting thing I took out of that trailer is that the size of the levels you’re allowed to make seems to have increased dramatically.
