Twitter accounts from Nintendo of Japan and Nintendo UK have confirmed that a new update will be arriving for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS on July 31 with new costumes, modes, and stages!

First of all, the long awaited Tourney Mode is finally coming as a free update! A couple of retro stages, Peach’s Castle and Hyrule Castle from the N64 will also be available for purchase. Three new costumes have also been revealed for Mii Fighters– a Smash Bros. hoodie, a costume of Chrom for Fire Emblem Awakening, and a King K. Rool suit.

Even better, Nintendo will be revealing even more content coming to Smash in the next couple of days. Nintendo of America has not discussed the new update as of the time of this writing, but it’s safe to say the update will be launching across all territories.

UPDATE: Nintendo of America has confirmed on social media accounts that this update will be coming to North America on 7/31 as well.

Check out the embedded tweets below for pictures of the new content!

Sadly, the inclusion of a King K. Rool costume doesn’t get my hopes up that he will be added as a fighter… What does everyone think of the new Smash Bros. content? Do you plan to pick any of these up?

    Toadlord says...

If you would have asked me yesterday about K. Rool’s chances, I would have put him at 95%. The recent trademark news, trends in online polls, and general lack of Donkey Kong representation all seem like the perfect storm for the King to join Smash.

Now I’m not so sure. Based on the costume it looks like an actual character model would be on point. Sadly, I don’t see the point in paying for a skin I can’t even use online. So, full on character or bust for me.
