Fans of Capcom’s epic Monster Hunter series have a brand new reason to get excited. That’s because Capcom has announced that the latest title in the series, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, will see a western release in early 2015. Series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto made the official announcement on Capcom’s website this weekend.

Like Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will localize Japan’s enhanced version of the game (know as Monster Hunter 4G), rather than the original version of the title. This means that, while the western audience will have a longer wait ahead of them, they’ll also see more content than featured in the game’s original incarnation.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate received a western release on 3DS and Wii U in late 2012. The titles were released to strong critical reception, especially from us here at Nintendojo. In Japan, the sequel has seen equally strong reception, selling nearly 3 million copies in its first month alone. It’s important to note that, while Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was released on both 3DS and Wii U, Monster Hunter 4 has only appeared on 3DS thus far, and the enhanced version would seem to be in a similar boat. It would seem that a Wii U version is unlikely at this time, but with a local release over a year away, it isn’t unfathomable.

Are you looking forward to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate? Or are you holding out hope for a Wii U release? Let us know in the comments below!
