Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai kicked off today’s Nintendo Digital Event by announcing a new addition to the upcoming brawlers: the Mii Fighter!

According to Sakurai, he had considered including Miis in the series’ previous installment, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii, but ultimately decided against them as it didn’t “seem right” to have Miis fighting one another. This time, however, he and his team have done a considerable amount of work to make Miis fit into the games naturally.

To that end, players will be able to choose one of the following three fighting styles for their Mii Fighter:

  • Mii Brawlers specialize in close combat and pummel their opponents with a flurry of punches and kicks.
  • Mii Swordfighters brandish a sword and cut through their opponents gracefully.
  • And Mii Gunners are equipped with a special arm cannon that can shoot various projectiles at their opponents.

In addition to that, players can choose four out of 12 special moves for their Mii Fighters, allowing them to further customize their play style. Each Mii Fighter class has its own range of attacks to choose from, giving players a total of 36 different options for their avatars, and making the Mii Fighter one of the most versatile additions to the Smash Bros. roster!

Of course, a large part of the Mii Fighter’s appeal stems from the fact that literally anybody can now be brought into Super Smash Bros., allowing fans to play as their favorite celebrities and even gaming personalities. We’ll finally be able to witness Reggie’s ass-kicking skills in person.

Will you be using the Mii Fighter in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U? What characters are you looking forward to bringing into the games? Let us know in the comments!
