Next Level Games’ cooperative Metroid spinoff, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, isn’t slated to arrive in stores until August 19, but 3DS owners can get an early taste of its competitive mode Blast Ball now thanks to the release of a free demo in the 3DS eShop.

Unlike the game proper, which tasks up to four players with completing various cooperative missions, Blast Ball is a three-on-three game of FPS soccer. Two teams of players compete to shoot a large orb into the opposing team’s goal, using various power-ups to gain an advantage over opponents.

Unlike typical 3DS demos, there is no play limit for Blast Ball, though the demo version will only support online play for a limited time.

Have you downloaded the Blast Ball demo yet? What do you think of it? Has it changed your opinion of Federation Force? Let us know in the comments!
