With some of gaming’s greatest icons relegated to the back burner by their publishers, spiritual successors are now the go-to option for fans clamoring for those old classics. Keiji Inafune’s upcoming Mighty No. 9 has risen to fill the void left by Mega Man, but Capcom will seek to remind fans why they fell in love with the franchise this winter with the release of Mega Man Legacy Collection on the Nintendo 3DS eShop!

Mega Man Legacy Collection will feature the original six NES Mega Man games. While fans have had plenty of opportunities to revisit these games in the past through Mega Man Anniversary Collection or the Virtual Console, the upcoming title will boast a few new reasons for fans to check them out. The title will feature a Challenge mode, online leader boards, a museum mode and new replay options. You can see for yourself in the trailer mirrored below!

The game seems to be in keeping with Capcom’s recently revealed strategy of focusing on remakes of popular titles. All six of these games are currently available on Virtual Console, making this release a bit superfluous, but the title’s $14.99 price tag is a better bargain than what’s currently available, especially when you factor in the added content. While Mega Man fans will likely be eager to check out the upcoming compilation, it still isn’t a new game, which is what fans of the franchise have been really clamoring for! It will be interesting to see how the title fares against Mighty No. 9.

Stay tuned to Nintendojo where we’ll have more information on Mega Man Legacy Collection in the coming months!

Only one problem, on the 3DS it won’t be in HD unlike the other systems, so why in the world is it NOT coming to the Wii U, an HD system? I would consider buying it for that price on Wii U in HD, problem is I already have these games on the carts and the disc compilation. Has to be a better reason to buy them again.

Of course I forgot Mighty No. 9, which I already have reserved for Wii U in physical form and will be in HD. Guess I’ll forget getting these. Played them to death already, and seems a bit dishonest for Capcom to release them all for this price when they have been available individually for a higher price for quite a while. Pass.
