…as a trophy. Sakurai, you tease.

Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai tapped into his inner troll earlier today when he announced the latest Smash Bros. update. In a post on Miiverse, the famed designer unveiled a screenshot of Phosphora, one of the boss characters from Kid Icarus: Uprising (which, incidentally, Sakurai also directed). Before fans could get too excited, however, Sakurai clarified in a followup post that Phosphora was merely appearing in the upcoming brawlers as a trophy, posting a zoomed out shot of the same image that revealed her trophy base:

“Pic of the day. The most powerful commander of the Forces of Nature, Lightning Flash Phosphora!!

“…is a Trophy. The detail in her scarf is amazing.”

That’s certainly a little disappointing, but it’s not altogether surprising considering the minor role Phosphora played in Uprising. Still, she would have made a wonderful Assist Trophy. Here’s hoping her theme can at least make it into the games!
