Veteran game designer Keiji Inafune certainly has his hands full at the moment, working on both his anticipated crowdfunded game Mighty No. 9 and the recently announced Azure Striker Gunvolt. Still, even though both of his current projects carry on the spirit of Mega Man, the mascot with whom Inafune has become inextricably linked, the Blue Bomber is not far from his thoughts.

In an interview with USgamer, Inafune revealed that the game he most wants to work on is Mega Man Legends 3, the Mega Man RPG originally slated for 3DS before it was unceremoniously canceled by Capcom. Regarding the game, Inafune said,

“If somebody asked, even right now, what’s the game you want to create most? It’s still Legends 3. I put so much effort into that game, so much passion into that game, but it didn’t happen. It’s always a regret in my mind. Even now…”

Of course, Inafune acknowledges that the chances of this are slim considering that Capcom owns the rights to the property. Still, if given the opportunity, Inafune says he’d gather the original development team together to finish the title:

“But if they asked me to make that game, I could still gather most of the original team, even right now. Some of them have quit Capcom, some of them are still at Capcom, but I believe that team would be passionate enough to come back together and create that game. So… we’ll see what’s going to happen. You never know.”

It’s a shame Inafune never got to complete Mega Man Legends 3, as it’s clear he invested a lot into the project. Would you like to see Mega Men Legends 3 resurrected? Share your thoughts in the comments!

I never thought the originals held up too well over the years but will admit they were fun to play back in the day. It was neat seeing mega man in 3d for the first time. I wouldn’t mind seeing a new one but I never really clamored for it before it was canceled.
