In Japan, Super Bomberman R had the Best Debut for the Series Since 1998

Definitely not a dud.

Sales for the Nintendo Switch are off to a very good start, but there aren’t a large number of titles available for the system at the moment. It’s hard to compete with Zelda, after all, but the smaller stable of software likely benefited Konami’s Super Bomberman R. The game sold nearly 37,000 copies in Japan, making it the best debut for the series in the region in nearly twenty years.

Strong sales of the title were likely spurred by the game’s multiplayer modes and online play. As of this writing, Super Bomberman R is currently the best-selling third party title on Switch in Japan, thus far. The last Bomberman title to feature a superior debut was 1998’s Bomberman World on the original PlayStation. That particular title sold through more than 76,000 copies in its debut week. Of course, in 1998, the PlayStation was also a much more well-established system, so it’s a bit hard to compare the two games!

Stay tuned to Nintendojo for a review of Super Bomberman R in the very near future!
