UPDATE: It seems there’s been a bit of confusion regarding just what Nintendo has said about the Frog Suit returning in Super Mario 3D World. It appears the developers had jokingly stated that Luigi’s appearance in the new Cat Suit power-up reminded them of the Frog Suit, and that it would be funny if the classic power-up also made a return in the game. Whether or not that’s a tease of what we can expect in Super Mario 3D World has yet to be seen, but for now, it looks as if the Frog Suit will be staying in the annals of Mario’s history. Oh well, at least we know Kuribo’s Shoe is making a comeback!
Thanks to lukas85 for calling this to our attention!
Original story: We got our first glimpse at Mario’s next 3D adventure, Super Mario 3D World, during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, and with it a look at the brand new Cat Suit that players will be able to wear during the adventure. As it turns out, that won’t be the only animal-based power-up making its way into the game.
In a special presentation during this year’s E3, Nintendo revealed that the Frog Suit, the classic power-up from Super Mario Bros. 3, will be making a return in Super Mario 3D World as well. While the company did not elaborate on how it would affect the gameplay, the Frog Suit will presumably make swimming easier– and make walking on land clumsier– just as it did in the NES title.
I can’t wait to see what Princess Peach will look like in the Frog Suit.
It’s certainly nice to see Nintendo paying reverence to Mario’s history by bringing these classic power-ups back. Are there any other classic power-ups you’d like to see make a return in Super Mario 3D World? Let us know in the comments!
