Drugs Found Stuffed Inside NES Cartridges

Sorry, but the drugs are in another cartridge.

A retro game collector was in for one heck of a surprise after he recently purchased a couple of NES titles from a flea market.

Julian Turner brought home his copies of Rollergames and Golf and first noticed that Rollergames was a PAL copy of the game, which was an usual sight at the Georgia flea market. He then found that the games felt heavier than a typical NES cartridge and, after weighing both games against other copies of Rollergames and Golf that he owns, found them to be 50% heavier than they should’ve been.

Once Julian unscrewed the backs of the cartridges, he found two silver bags of something in each cartridge, which he opened to discover the drugs and then called the police.

Though the police haven’t confirmed exactly what drugs they were, Julian mentions in the video that “anonymous experts” have told him it’s heroin, and the police have called it “synthetic.”

After some initial investigating the police determined that the drugs had been inside of the cartridges for quite some time. Julian decided to do some investigating of his own and learned that a different collector had purchased a copy of Golf and found $5000 in bills stuffed into the cartridge.

It’s not wildly outlandish to think that perhaps 30 years ago, Golf was the game of choice for drug smugglers involved in a smuggling scheme between the U.S. and Europe. Or perhaps it’s just a coincidence that the game was used to hide more than one person’s dirty deeds…
