Disney Interactive’s fiscal year has drawn to a close and it ended on a high note, thanks in no small part to the success of Disney Infinity. Since its release back in August, this amalgamation of toy and video game has managed to move over a million units, suggesting it can hang with the current, and previously unchallenged, king of this strange sub-genre, Activision’s Skylanders franchise.
Overall, the games division of the media empire still saw an overall loss for the year of $87 million, but considering the fact that the loss was at over $216 million going into the final quarter, it is one heck of a turn around. This also puts Disney in a very nice position considering the fact that Infinity definitely seems like the kind of game that will have plenty of legs going into the holidays.
Personally, though, you won’t see me jump on board until Disney fully levies all of its properties by bringing in Star Wars and the Marvel universe. It’s been my dream ever since I was a child to see Boba Fett and Wolverine team up, so please make it happen Disney!
