Everyone knows that Monster Hunter is one of the biggest gaming franchises in Japan that just never quite caught on in the West, but that doesn’t stop Capcom from trying its hardest to change our minds. Last year we got Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U and 3DS, and it was recently announced that we would be receiving an enhanced version of Monster Hunter 4 in 2015. Now Capcom has mentioned the possibility of bringing Monster Hunter Frontier G (also known as Monster Hunter Online) to Western audiences on a variety of platforms, including Wii U.

The news comes from an interview with Yoshinori Ono, who said the game was specifically developed for so many platforms because Capcom wanted to bring it to the world:

“The reason why we have increased our support for so many hardware platforms is because we have our sights set on distributing services for this game in the future outside Japan. We simply can’t release a game as it is, but need to adapt all the necessary services to the unique characteristics of each region. In preparation for that, we’ve broadened our scope and started launching individual titles across multiple hardware platforms.”

I wasn’t a Monster Hunter fan until I played Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on my Wii U, and a big part of my love for that game is the simplicity of the online play. I think that multiplayer is the most important part of that series, so the news that the MMO version might be coming our way is very exciting. Hopefully the subscription costs aren’t too high because I could see myself playing this off and on for a long time.

What do you think? Are you a Monster Hunter fan, or could you care less about the series? Let us know in the comments below!
