A Trio of Limited Edition 3DS XL Systems Revealed

Nintendo goes variant crazy!

Nintendo went on a handheld rampage with its announcement of a trio of special 3DS XL units on the way! Along with the red Super Smash Bros. 3DS XL that was shown off not too long ago for the European market, Nintendo has revealed that it and a blue iteration of that limited edition handheld will be hitting American retailers this coming September 19. The red and blue Smash XL systems will retail for $199.99 apiece, though sadly neither console will come with a copy of Super Smash Bros., physical or digital.

The other two limited editions will be based on Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth and NES. The Persona Q XL (which drops November 25) is pretty spiffy, but the NES variant (available October 10) is especially curious. Emblazoned with an NES controller across its lid and sporting red face buttons, this is a worthy successor to the limited edition NES Game Boy Advance SP that was released years ago. Sadly, much like the Smash Bros. XL designs, these models will also sell for $199.99, and don’t come with any game. Still, the limited edition drought in the west seems to have come to an end, so that counts for something!

So who’s going to be picking one/all of these up? Sound off in the comments!

Ugh. If I hadn’t bought that Zelda 3DS last year, I would have to snag the NES one. So, so pretty. As it is, it’s impossible for me to justify.

Uff, that NES one is beautiful. With the New 3DS on the way though, I’m not about to cave and get an XL now. When I get an XL, it’s gonna be able to play Xenoblade! :^)

(By the way, “New 3DS”? I’ve given up on Nintendo ever using a sane name for a device ever again.)
