Issue 33: Go Comics!

Comics and video games share striking similarities when it comes to their histories. Both have struggled to be accepted as art forms, both are an evolution of a pre-existing entertainment medium, and both have faced the outrage of government and parents who just don’t understand them. Yet for all their similarities they are very different mediums. Which makes it slightly surprising that both garner a large number of the same followers. So it makes sense then that there are crossovers both ways.

There have been a multitude of video games based on comic book characters, both good and bad. I’m sure you can probably name a few. Here’s the question, though: Can you name as many the other way? This week we take a minute to reflect on the various video game series and how they transitioned to a printed medium. Sometimes it was a good transition, and other times we just shook our heads in amazement at their awfulness. Either way, we hope you’ll enjoy our look at this convergence of gaming and comic books.
